There is often so much mystery and nervousness surrounding the design process. When looking for a designer to try to infuse our identity into a piece we ask ourselves, am I saying the right thing, and how does this work?
Those who I have the absolute humble honour of working with on any design job, I wish to truly deeply connect with – to ebb and flow with their mind rhythmically to the same song. Uni-Verse, 1 verse, 1 song.
No two designers design the exact same way, and no two beings hold the same philosophy. I hope to inspire, to unveil and transmute the haze to utter clarity.
At each stage in this 6, I have broken down my unique personal philosophy. If you discover that my art, process and philosophy elicits deep resonance with you I would love to open my creative mind to you in a collaboration.
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
― Abraham Lincoln
Gaining a skin-deep level of understanding produces a design that breathes no life.
It is my aim as a designer not to simply draw the façade of a concept/ idea, but to encapsulate in a simple and powerful design utmost depth which does justice to its intricacies.
A phenomenal design begins with a plan – not of shallow execution, but of thorough analysis and a drive to truly match the passion and understanding of the clients mind – for it is only at this point does a designer breathe life into a piece.
The client does not even need to have a concept/ idea established. Through the process of guided introspection we may build ideas and concepts together.
“Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought.”
- Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
My passion for learning and undertsanding the depth of an idea brings me to research.
Once the concept has been examined and communicated, analysis of pattern & research transpires. Symbology – the study of symbol, and esoteric wisdom is the foundation of my creative execution. Utilising universal symbolism as the blueprint which transfigures as concepts are build is the Sine qua non of inner-standing an idea. If a concept cannot be “drawn in the sand” the designer has not understood.
It is my aim to enhance my abstract knowledge of an idea/ concept. A design cannot simply be the “face” it must also be all of the muscles, bones, nerves and energy which flows and grows.
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
- Leonardo da Vinci
When drafting and sketching we take a concept and everything that it symbolises then code it through symbol in it’s most distilled form. A masterful design design tells a story - a picture is worth a thousand words.
The composition of all my pieces is drawn adhering to the Golden Ratio – the most aesthetcially pleasing mathematical ratio. I have several different styles of design I have worked with and refined for over 15 years but specialise in geomery and linework. The sketching and drafting process is done with non-digital media, simply raw pencil to paper.
It is my aim to show my client a range of designs in various styles to gauge an understanding of their aesthetic.
“The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.”
- Norman Vincent Peale
Post choosing a design, we approach refinement. Speak your absolute truth and have your unrestraint say, I want to hear all of your critiques.
I help guide the stripping own of each and every element that constutues the design and examine them under the microsope:
Q. Do the elements tell the story of the concept?
Q. Does it add to the aesthetic appeal?
Q. What variations can be made to elements? Let’s experiment and see if an alternative variation better fits the design
“Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.”
I take all of the adjustments discussed in step 4, and refine till perfection – it is my personal philosophy that there is no compromise for quality.
It is an exponentially growing passion and mission of mine to bring into fruition and help facilitate the passions of others.
We edit, we refine - all brilliant art is the evolution of the first design.
“It has been said above that art is the child of its age. Such an art can only create an artistic feeling which is already clearly felt. This art, which has no power for the future, which is only a child of the age and cannot become a mother of the future, is a barren art. She is transitory and to all intent dies the moment the atmosphere alters which nourished her."
- Wassily Kandinsky, Concerning the Spiritual in Art
The finished design is digitally perfected with Photoshop – each and every line.
Design is sacred, my intention behind the final piece post designing was powerfully described by Wassily Kandinsky in his book “Concerning the Spiritual in Art”
He speaks of art being a mother of the future as opposed to a child of it’s age. A masterful design is not static in the time it was created, but geometry which continues to grow abstractly in meaning over time. Your design, no matter what it’s purpose will grow with you and your identity. The designs are bottomless seas in depth.
Step 6 is truly humbling – it is an honour to have shared space, time and energy in fusing minds with another to birth a design encapsulating anothers passion, movement and identity.
